Well hello there mister, you look quite knowledgeable about computers

The jpeg was released in 1992.
The video equivalent of that time was the mpeg.

Since then videos got smaller and with higher quality.
But images coded are stuck, we still use jpeg today.

What if someone used the source code of the AV1 to create an image compressor?

Couldn't we have 40 megapix photos in just 100kb?

How does anybody use Linux? This is super frustrating and time consuming.

I decided to try it out cuz I hate Microsoft and Windows was getting too spooky for me, I heard that Linux wasnt that bad BUT it is actually horrible.
Literally nothing works, I have to constantly jump through 20 hoops just to get any program to work.
Even if the program was designed specifically for Linux it's still shit and rarely actually functions.
Not even to mention the amount of frustration I have whenever I find Windows programs that I need which doesnt and never will have a Linux port or anything that works as well.

I always used to scoff at the phrase "Linux is only free if you don't value your time" but now that I've tried it I realize it is actually 100% true. I'm spending more time searching through age-old forum posts and guides than I am anything else, and none of it is even helpful. Getting this bs to work is actually painful.

So I just bought pic related (C Crane Skywave) to try and get into radio, especially shortwave listening. Are there any good resources /g/ reccomends, or just good tips?
