It comes bearing those examples at hand, but unless you haven't been online often or recently, you will surely have seen the trend of platforms to buy/close/restrict competition for alternative communication online, AND THEN claim that they have a right to deplatform without infringing on free speech since you "could go somewhere else" (something they are explicitly trying to prevent).
Sure, that particular comic is about google plus and twitter and that should be your clue that it's been going in this direction since google+ was a thing, instead of just taking it at face value that it's about those two things...
