>>88929847I believe that if we limit our ressources consumption and try to protect the environment right now, by we I mean everyone especially rich people, and if we kill a huge amount of humans, because 10-15 billions is too much, then we will have more time to spend on the Earth and we will probably find amazing technologies to continue to limit our ressources consumption without limiting ourselves by being more efficient. The problem is that in reality, there is the Jevons paradox, neoliberalism ruling the world, and it is hugely improbable that we find a way to kill humans in the coming years (for example, not vaccinate people against COVID-19 would have been better, but nooo you can't let 20% of the elderly people die a few years earlier).
I'm pretty sure that is where the Great Filter is: in the capitalist economy who would benefit from the self-replicating spacecraft? What is the ROI of colonizing other planets?
