ill mention now that id like to assume the computer is running at its hottest temps from start to finish (where it breaks), as things can break starting at 100c or so if you run them for long enough, so assume the system has all safety catches turned off and is at the temp where it dies instantly, which would be... ? - with the first piece of hardware to fail being... ?
you can also use whatever is affordable for a regular person without having to worry about mass-production/ease of

my first guess would be the circuitry or wiring melting. thoughts?

Not all gaming laptops suffer from poor cooling and most issues can be fixed with after market solutions like liquid metal or a quality thermal paste.
Battery life is very short during heavy use, but in standard use it will last longer when it's not using the gpu. These things are not meant for gaming on the go in a car for example so you'll almost always have a outlet near you when you want to do demanding tasks.
