Is it true that writing game engines or games from scratch is "reinventing the wheel" implying that game engines are a solved problem?

I used to look up to Richard Stallman. Used to use GNU software and even knew the Interjection by heart. But I started to realize that there is nothing he did that was original. He wrote a clone of UNIX--a system designed by Bell Labs, not FSF--and couldn't even finish it. Not to mention the fact that the BSD source was already on the way to being publicly available.

I had to tear down my Richard Stallman posters, shave my neckbeard, and get a life. The days of using GNU/Linux are behind me now. I've moved on to macOS.

Face it, kid: Your hero wasted his life.
