If you want help:
>State the budget & CURRENCY for your build
>List your uses, e.g. Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work
>For monitors, include purpose (e.g., photoediting, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)

CPUs:
>NO i5 7500/7600K or i7 7700/K. THEY ARE DEFUNCT AND SUPERSEDED BY COFFEE LAKE
>G4560/G4600 - non-gaming (light tasks) or bare minimum gaming builds with a dedicated graphics card
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (best with OC + fast RAM)
>R5 1600 / i5 8400 - Great gaming (especially the i5 8400) or multithreaded use CPUs (especially the R5 1600)
>R7 / Used Xeon / Threadripper / i7 - Heavy Multi-Tasking / VM Work / Mixed use

RAM:
>Current CPUs benefit from high speed RAM; 3000-3200 MHz is ideal
>Before buying RAM for Ryzen, check your Mobo's QVL or look for user reports

Graphics cards:
>Consider Vega 56 for a Freesync monitor
>Crypto-Currency miners have driven GPU prices up (particularly Radeon)
1080p
>MSRP of standard 1080p cards: 1050Ti, 140USD; 1060 3GB, $200; 1060 6GB, $230; RX 570 4GB, $170; RX 580 4GB, $200
>GTX 1070 if you're looking for very high (100+) framerates and you have a CPU and monitor to match
1440p
>GTX 1070/Ti and 1080 are standard choices; currently overpriced
>GTX 1080Ti if you're looking for very high (100+) framerates and you have a CPU and monitor to match
2160p (4K)
>GTX 1080Ti

General:
>PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING
>A 240GB or larger SSD is almost mandatory; consider m.2 form factor

/flt/ - Friendly Linux Thread

No.50706245 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
Intended for users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

If you are serious about switching to Linux, use it exclusively for 2 weeks, avoid windows dual booting for that period of time, or it's likely you will start retreating back to windows instead of getting used to Linux as your new home and working on making it feel the way you want it.

It is recommended to experience distro of your choice in a VM.

Before asking, please find the answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from windows will be unavailable, (although maybe wine can make up for it.)

Anyone else hate contactless payment technology?

No.72413047 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
Banks in my country refuse to issue non contactless chip cards now.
People can steal your debit card and use it without the pin
I never use the contactless and always use my debit card as chip and pin
Whats the best way to disable this /g/?

I think I hit jackpot.

!!QcDnJpzGjpA No.29831750 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
Hey /g/, take a look at this idea.

If you were to never PAY ONE CENT for electricity spent ( no, it's not my mom paying it I just live in a country where my small towns just don't fucking pay it because corruption, elections and other factors), how much €/$ could I make in a month?
I have fair understanding of GNU/Linux and technology in general but with Bitcoin I am not experienced.

I figure I need
1. Electricity ( no worry in my case )
2. High end rig. I am thinking of buying 2 ATI good cards for this. Any better solution? I don't have a lot of money to invest. Maybe later if all goes fine.
3. Internet
4. Understanding of GNU/Linux, networking.

Now, the second great thing after not paying electricity, I would be hosting the rig at a family friend who has a small ISP for the town. The ISP isn't that great but all right for basic Internet stuff. Maybe would be getting 2 Mbits/second download speed. Might as well just the rig as server.

So I'd have a free rig running on free electricity and Internet. How much could I make from one ATI Radeon™ HD 5870 card for example?
Also, can I mine buttcoins on an encrypted hard disk without lowering the mining speed or something? I'd encrypting it in case it gets stolen or something.
Cons would be electricity going down for maybe 2 hours a day at most, Internet disconnecting now and then.

>TL;DR Have free electricity, how much could I make off Bitcoin?
