>>47105637>It's the most popular player and yet it's so shit. Back in 2004 a bunch of codecs were needed to play videos. This was confusing and annoying. I remember the difficulty I had when I wanted to watch one of the Inuyasha movies on my CRT monitor. VLC just played the damn thing without any external setup. That's why it got popular. Then MPC:HC with its codecs got simpler and easier to use and that also became an option.
There was a reason why it got popular, but since it's been surpassed and isn't needed anymore.
>Don't they have any ambition to make it better? What happens is the codebase becomes such a mess you'd have to rewrite the whole thing. That's a lot of work no one is willing to do on a free project.
Check out mpv as it's pretty lean on resources and seems to be what you want. Set it to the be the default media player for .mkv files, and maybe check out bakamplayer if you want a GUI.
