can anyone explain to me to vision behind Gnome Circle?
right now what we have there are some very simple, basic apps. most of them are not game-changer apps.
strong ecosystems are built upon more advanced apps. I take the Apple ecosystem as an example. I know they are proprietary and very different, but they are clearly the inspiration. of course, part of the apple ecosystem is the close garden approach, and this is something we don't want to replicate.
but the power of the apple ecosystem comes from apps like Final Cut Pro, Glyphs, etc. those apps that peoples build careers with them.
what an advantage gnome can get from another calculator app? and it's not like tomorrow devs will start building very big apps specifically with gnome circle in mind. gnome doesn't have enough users to attract such development efforts.
of course, I don't disrespect the peoples that put a lot of hours and building this ecosystem. but I don't get the vision.
when Elementary OS did it, there were some very ambitious projects, such as Akira and Ensembles. but they never saw the light of day and never got out of alpha. and in the meantime, the elementary project fell apart.
so what the vision for Gnome Circle is? how success will look like?
