Hi /g/ I'm using Ubuntu how do I run a bash script at startup?

Here's what I've already tried and failed:

- Putting file.sh in /etc/init.d then running suo update-rc.d file.sh default

- Putting the command into /etc/rc.local just before exit 0

- Putting bash /full/path/to/file.sh into Startup Applications

- Creating a new .desktop file and then adding file to /etc/

The file itself runs perfectly fine when I run it from terminal. The only thing that has worked for me so far is to edit .bashrc in my user directory. But this has the unwanted side effect of running the file every time I open Terminal.

Any suggestions?
