Soldered RAM and SSD is fine

No.98027739 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I hear people complaining about soldered SSD and RAM because they want to be able to upgrade it. I don't think this an honest or well thought out complaint because you can simply buy a model which has the amount of SSD and RAM you would need in the future.
The real problem here is cost and high cost is a completely valid complaint, but make that complaint instead of being dishonest and saying I want to upgrade SSD and RAM down the line. No you don't. You don't intrinsically enjoy the process of buying compatible RAM/SSD and opening your laptop and replacing the SSD and RAM. You want to save money which is fine. Just be honest about it.
A follow on argument is that soldered SSD and RAM generates e-waste because devices cannot be upgraded to delay obsolescence. Just because a device becomes obsolete for your needs, doesn't mean someone else might find it useful. You can sell it and buy a new one. Upgrading RAM and SSD probably results in more e-waste. You end up having RAM and SSD which is pretty hard to sell and reuse compared to full machine. I think the best thing we can do reduce e-waste is buy quality devices with sane configs that will have good longevity or buy second-hand.
A common complaint about soldered SSD's is that you cant recover your data if your computer dies. If you have valuable data, you should have backups elsewhere. Relying on your computer whether the SSD is soldered or not is completely retarded. Replaceable SSD's wont save your data if your laptop gets lost/stolen, stuck in house fire or the SSD itself gets fried. This is a non issue for anyone who actually understand how to deal with valuable data.

How did Microsoft make it to $3T? All of their products are garbage. Windows 11 is terrible. Windows in general is losing marketshare to Linux now. Xbox is literally a dead end and never has brought in profit. What the fuck are they doing to generate money? Is this what government money laundering looks like?

HWID2 mimics a valid installation to generate a permanent legitimate license.

>Which version should I install?
Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 (21H2)
+ Support until 2032
+ Win32 system utilities and no MS Store / MS Store apps out of the box
+ No forced major upgrades
+ No nagware updates
- Worse performance on CPUs with a big / little architecture
- Some programs require 22H2+ and thus don't work without workarounds

Windows 11 Education
+ Better CPU performance on CPUs with a big / little architecture
+ No bloatware apps (still has UWP system utils)
- Minimum requirements are unreasonably high
- Explorer rewritten in UWP with worse performance and less features
- Forced feature upgrades 18 months after a build's release
- AI functionality shoehorned in
- Forces using a MS Account without workarounds

Alternatively, use MSOffice through your browser since it's free,
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save as MSOffice file formats.

BtrFS, ZFS, and Ext are DEAD! Long live the new kang - BCACHEFS (yes, that's a real name)!

No.97115107 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=9e87705289667a6c5185c619ea32f3d39314eb1b

Linux Towards gave in, after almost 3 years of constant nagging-nigging and "discussions" between the developer and the fuckyounoVideoman. Bcachefs, which is, apparently, supposedly, a much better optimized and much more QoL alternative to ZFS and Btrfs and Ext, is going to be officially fully supported in and included to Linux kernel, starting from 6.7, so it's all ogre.

Bcachefs is, apparently, better than ZFS + Btrfs + Ext all combined altogether, so this is either going to kill off all other third-party file systems on Linux and other Unix-likes in the long run, or it'll force ZFS, Btrfs and Ext to finally evolve and improve significantly by pulling their devs' heads out of their own smelling-on-their-own-farts elitist entitles asses. Basically, a win-win situation either way (if just one file system remains in the long run, bcachefs that is, it's less bloat and more stability, and if ZFS and Btrfs and Ext still be around, at the very least they'll be pressed and forced into improving).

P.S.
ReiserFS was already killed off and removed from the Linux kernel due to being murdered via deprecation and buried in the backyard of Hans' house, so don't bother.

P.S.
"BcacheFS" reads/pronounced as "BakaChefs" or "Baka Chefs", NOT as "B cache FS".
