As far as I'm aware production costs are the same for HDD and SSD
So this is the reason SSDs are still so expensive? The fact you don't need autistic backup systems to let you sleep soundly at night?

I have heard of Files as a Windows 10/11 file manager but I'm curious as to what's your experience before I consider switching to it

If you would like to try out GNU+Linux you can do one of the following:
1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU+Linux distribution without installing anything.
2) Keep using your current OS and run GNU+Linux in VirtualBox.
3) Do the reverse of step 2 in QEMU.
4) Replace everything with GNU+Linux.
