>>8859421I was a massive fan of Nadesico back in the day, after the unsatisfying ending of the movie and the absolute silence that followed it I had a look into the series. Obviously enough it has been noted here that the movie was originally supposed to be the first in a trilogy. What I heard was after the first movie was not very well received anywhere due to the fact that to understand it fully you needed to have played the Blank of Three Years game, a game released on a dying platform in Japan and as such was never released internationally.
The next part probably requires a little backstory and probably will be me stating things most of you already know. . . Basically the original mangaka of Nadesico: Kia Asamiya is rumoured to have absolutely despised the Nadesico anime, primarily because it look so many liberties with the original manga (and with damn good reason, the manga is an absolute trainwreck) but because the anime was so damn popular, Asamiya basically bit his lip and let the money roll in. However after the movie was not very well recieved, primarily due to the stupid decision to have a game link the series with the movie, as well as the fact they had not told anyone the movie was the first of three, Asamiya seized on the moment and took the rights to the franchise and told everyone to go f*ck themselves. The only reason I believe the Dreamcast game Nadesico the Mission was completed was because that was already beign worked on at the time of the movies release, same could be said for the Gekiganger OVA.
But alot of this was basically speculation from people I read online. . .
