You can tell a story about a character the audience will neither root for or like, provided they're at least still interesting.
Characters like Daniel Plainview and Patrick Bateman, for example, aren't particularly likable and their creators don't want you to root for them. Bateman in particular is a character they make no bones about the fact is a cold-blooded sociopath who's even aware that he's a Goddamn monster.
BUT, they're also interesting characters to follow because we see just how far into the black they're willing to go.
There is no written rule that says a main character needs to be likable. It helps endear them to the audience, to be certain, but the same can be done with a character who is unlikable, but nevertheless interesting.
If you're not interested in Haruto, that's one thing, and certainly a failure of the writer. But let's not act like likability is the only way to make a compelling lead.
