the 70s,80s thread is great but not everything needs to be in that general. thats how generals turn stale. When I finally get around to finishing shows like Zambot 3 and Dunbine. I'm gonna make threads about them, not in the general. They are great for finding new stuff though

There are around twelve PIGGSTAR books, from what I've been told (a couple of which haven't been scanned yet), plus your pic related, a parum doujin where Marida is in Newtype nirvana and sees many classic UC girls being fucked (it's one of the earliest Unicorn doujins), plus her being featured in other PIGGSTAR compilations, and the vanilla/sweet books that were mentioned in this thread previously. There's plenty of material of her, actually, and it's delicious.

I wouldn't go that far. If I'm trying to get someone into Gundam, 0079 is the series I'll recommend. I still think its the best.

Don't discount anime from the 70s and 80s. There are plenty of great series. OVAs and movies aren't all that's watchable from that time period.

Something that actually frustrates me is the reverse of what /m/ normally complains about, that fixation on old character designs and 80s shading. I can understand preferring that, but when people refuse to watch anything past a certain year it's exactly the same as when someone else refuses to watch old animation because it's "dated" or something stupid like that. It doesn't even really frustrate me when people will only watch one thing as much as when they lord it over people like theirs is the superior decision and it's not all just the same shit.

If the story's compelling and the characters are all there then the art style shouldn't matter that much at all.

It's not just the art style, though that's a part of it. Anime is quite a bit different in tone now than it was in the 70s and 80s. There are still great series coming out, but I just find that what most fans want today, see >>>/a/, is not what I want.

Evangeleon deconstruted the mecha genre. before evangeloen all mech animes were monster of the week shows about boys saving the world with their giant robots. but evangelion created a paragaigmn shift by introcuding complex psycological analysis of the mecha anime viewers under the guise of a mecha anime. it subverted all mecha anime tropes and turned the genre on it's head in ways mecha had never done before.

evangelion ranks amoung citizen cain, ulyssis and No. 5 by Jackson Polack in artistic merit by turning a genre meant for children into a masterful serious show for adult tastes the world has enver seen before
