Has anyone here heard confirmation of whether or not Gundam Side Stories is going to contain "Rise from the Ashes" as one of the HD re-releases? Also, Gundam Side Stories speculation/discussion thread.

So, /m/en, after some persuasion from some of you guys, I just finished up reading FSS up to volume 10. But I'm just not satisfied. Granted, I know volumes 11 and 12 haven't been translated, or any of the new Gothicmade stuff that was recently running on Newtype. But the story feels incomplete. Sure, Nagano has a whole timeline written out for us, but there is just no gravity to it. If anything, it's really depressing because a lot of the plot developments in the manga are almost irrelevant to the main story. I guess that is the appeal of FSS, but it's like introducing someone to the Star Wars franchise by making them watch the shitty Clone Wars series rather than actually showing them the movies. There are a lot of really fantastic short stories, like pic related, but I doubt it'll lead to anywhere in the long run. Even Berserk, despite taking forever to update like FSS, has a full complete arc with the Golden Age. So, have any of you actually read the manga yet? Can we have a more in-depth discussion than "the mechs are so skinny"? Can we have a decent FSS discussion without bitching about Nagano, LED Mirage, SRW or Gothicmade? Probably not, but I would like to see what you guys think about the actual manga aspect of FSS.

Really feels like a pet project, a concept and a universe, than happens to have some short stories written about it, than it does a complete manga.

The stories were interesting, but the character designs are atrocious. I'd rather take CLAMP'd characters over half the cast.
Also, I'm pretty damn sure Nagano will never finish, he always throws a bitchfit about some element of his own work and seeks to redesign everything and change the names of some definitions, like he did with "Fatima". We're more likely to see Berserk finish before FSS.

Today I marathoned three recent Evangelion movies. 1.11 and 2.22 were pretty awesome but I have an issue with 3.33. What happened? Aside from the overuse of shitty-looking CGI and disgusting ship design, the tone changed a lot. Character changes are ridiculous, both Misato and Pirate Asuka became a flat 1-dimensonal characters. I know I'm late to the party but can we have a discussion about that abomination?

It wouldn't be so blatantly making-shit-up-as-they-go-along if the entire plot of 3.0 didn't COMPLETELY backpedal on the ending to 2.0. Uh, people actually defending this? hi? Remember how the "Third Impact" in 2.0 only got as far as blowing up some buildings and having no effect whatosever on people standing outside at Ground Zero before Kaworu stopped anything else from happening? The cube holding Eva-01 in outer space? The small moon floating over Japan? The giant valley of vagina teeth where Tokyo-3 used to be? The graveyard of fossilized Eva Mk. VI's surrounding the fossilized Adam? These are all obviously ideas Anno and his goons came up with in between movies. At this point they're just shitting on the viewer's intelligence and retconning the plot in plain view. inb4 But it's just like the TV show! because the TV show had a 14 year timeskip and a Gundam SEED Destiny-tier cast switch that I don't remember, apparently. But I already hated 2.0 when it first came out (not in that "Well 3.0 was incongruous garbage, so now I'm going to retroactively hate the earlier films" way most other people do), so I'm probably not the best person to talk about this shit objectively.
Anonymous
>>10444315 I thought 2.0 was pretty nice. It was a step in the right direction, after having seen 1.0 and it being the same, 2.0 gradually changing things from the old meant they could make something that wasn't a pure rehash.
Just a shame that 3.0 is more focused on selling Kaworu and Shinji and making for Asuka fanservice than doing it's very best to flesh out the characters and story.

>>10444346 My problem with 2.0 is when it wasn't retarded setting up plot elements just to abruptly end them (hi Eva-05) or pulling plot contrivance political factions out of its ass (hello there Vatican Treaty), it was just being a verbatim remake of Eva TV (nice seeing you again, frame-for-frame Bardiel fight sequence). And honestly, I would have liked it fine if it had just stuck to being a streamlined adaptation of the TV show with modern animation. I also would have been fine if it were more like 3.0's basic style where it's a completely new story using similar characters, so fuck you "hurrr you're only angry because it's different!" people out there.
Where 2.0 goes wrong is when it's rapidly bouncing between both styles and can't really make up its mind what it wants to do. As a 2.0-hater, it's also kind of funny seeing people scream their heads off about the supposed new plot holes in 3.0 when they're really just amplified versions of the same shit Khara was already pulling in 2.0. Forced Vatican Treaty bullshit=Forced Wille bullshit; Eva-05 subplot going nowhere=Eva Mk. VI subplot going nowhere; etc.

Why is this so super popular again ? Just finished it and it was quite mediocre, it had its moments but it was nothing special and definitely not a masterpiece. And it was cliche, incredibly cliche, I think this was the most cliche anime I ever saw. Plot holes like: in all those years they could make an army of Gunbusters but they didn't build more. Time dilatation was used just as a gimmick for drama. The out of place love drama with Coach was stupid. The last episode and the finale were underwhelming. It was obvious the last ep was in B&W and masked as "artistic choice" just to save money and make it on time - just another ep25/26, good old Gainax. The Gunbuster fight in ep5 was underwhelming. The only moment that was really good and moved me was "Smith" ;_;7 Would be better if it ended at episode 5.>inb4 some retards start: "HURR must be a troll"
