So Macross Do You Remember Love? Question. I know that all of the wikis and information says the movie is in-universe and presumable non-canon version of the events of the series.

But all of the changes the movie made to the series, Zentradi/Meltrandi split into different fleets that fight each other, general appearance of the aliens, and mechanical designs are canon of the later series. So anyone knows exactly what is going on? Is the movie BOTH canon to the series and an in-universe recreation of events? Is it just certain changes? Does it really matter?

Back in the early 2000s or even 1999 not sure I was making edits of Mark Simmons lineart in MS paint and sharing them on the forum. Some guy made a Zaku I sniper and I edited his work to add on a longer eye optic and I added the pad for the knee to kneel on. It was black and had a tread pattern on it. At the time I was messing around with zeon ms knee pads so this seemed natural. Years later I'm watching Unicorn and shit my pants when I see the Zaku I sniper that guy and I had created in Simmon's line art. I looked it up and it was officially released in 2012 as an MSV. Ha. That was our work right down to the tan colors and my black knee pad.
