Showa Rider show are surprisingly very exciting and well shot.
https://youtu.be/F504iU_VES4 The only disadvantages they have compare to the newer rider show is plot.

patlabor on tv > early days ova/movies
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>17933202 the first ova is wildly inconsistent in terms of tone and overall episode quality. you have fun yet tense episodes like the bomb diffusal one, then whacky randumb shit like the sea monster one, and then half baked detective shit like the last two episodes (which they essentially turned into movie 2 to make the story any decent)
granted there's something of all 3 of those in TV patlabor but it's much more light hearted and comedic in tone. the inclusion of the supernatural shit just boggles my mind though, it just feels so out of place. there's not really a lot of serious stuff in patlabor other than the griffin storyline but imo that was kind of the worst part of patlabor TV. i would hate a patlabor tv show in the tone of the griffin episodes.

>>17936829 >>17936839 >>17936861 So Hoba wasn't actually God in an early draft, his character was just inspired by an idea for a Lupin story where the titular character doesn't show up but still has his presence felt?
Anonymous
>>17939296 Godguy here
iirc it was like, the story goes like [dramatic interpretation ensues] "Oshii got about ten minutes into the draft and they said lolno"
whatever it was it was a very, very early draft idea that went nowhere and is worthwhile only as a trivia matter at best
go dig through desu, there's likely to be some sort of answer there

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it got shot down so early that things weren't even on the drawing board yet. Also, in the final movie, considering that Hoba's ID had 666 on it, maybe he didn't actually consider himself God, but the devil instead?

>>17939296 He was actually god, Izubuchi and other staff stopped Oshii because they thought the ending was stupid. He recycled that ending for the live action movie except the pilot is a ghost instead of god.

>>19724753 It really didn't. Armageddon is decent for its time but TTGL just blows it away not only in quality but also in how the entire show just radiates style from every pore, whereas Armageddon looks fairly typical of its era.

>>19640054 The Gurren Lagann was practically disarmed by the Granzeboma. In the show, Simon inflicted the final blow with the Lagann alone, while in the movie he had to face the Anti-Spiral in a direct combat.
The Lagann (and other Gunmen Mechs) could potentially unlock the Spiral potential within their pilots, BUT they were practically useless (against greater threats) without a powerful spiral warrior.
Yes, Simon was a more power spiral warrior than the Anti-Spiral, but his final maneuver was a desperate act.

Also for a direct attack to be possible, they had to break through whatever external defenses AS had in the first place.

>>19465766 I believe the implication is that Nina and Gato had a relationship similar to Kelly and Latuera (the couple at the junk yard) and that Gato had been with her between the OYW and the events of the show before he left to go get revenge during Operation Stardust, because like Kelly he couldn't let go of his past and move on. Which is what I think the one central theme of 0083 is, moving on.
