I've finally got around to watching Ideon. Currently on the white flag episode. Man this anime is filled with Tomino women. There's a bunch of Reccoas running around. Also what the fuck is Karala's problem? This whole thing started because of her retardation. This is going to be one frustrating show to watch. Cosmo is cool but the other characters haven't exactly endeared themselves to me

I think Raideen, coincidentally another Tomino directed show where a mythical warrior robot from a lost civilisation is excavated and piloted by (a) youth(s), implies it has some sort of cosmic consciousness early on, in how it mentally reaches out to Akira and calls him to itself, and then Akira's basically just coordinating with Raideen so they can fight collaboratively

Will check out Raideen once I'm done with my Ideon rewatch. I like shows where it is heavily implied the mecha is alive in some sense like in Eva or Betterman rather than just being a tool for the characters to use.

What is it about Eva that closes people's minds? Virtually everyone that starts with Eva stops with Eva and never goes on to watch more mecha. Everything they see is viewed through the lens of Eva. How would anyone know how good it is relative to other mecha shows without having seen any other mecha shows? Moreover, why do you need this concept explained to you when you are presumably an adult? Knowing that there other things in the world but believing that what you've seen is the best because they are the only things you have seen is an extremely childish outlook.

An anime adaptation is inevitable. Nihei's never had good luck with adaptations, but this seems like it was tailor-made for one.

Sidonia with the off kilter school setting was clearly made for adaptation.

Aposimz doesn't feel custom made for one, not in the sort of crass way Sidonia was, though it does feel a lot more accessible than Blame.

No, I just roll my eyes at people who ignore the actual context of fights and characterization in them to insist on a given outcome. Haman hangs back when Char is fighting Scirocco and just comes in to slice off the Hyaku Shiki's arm before asking if Char wants to reconsider joining her, and then, more importantly, when Char has the Qubeley held down and thinks Haman can no longer use the funnels, she fires so as to take off the last of the Hyaku Shiki's limbs leaving it as nothing but a chest and then only asks if he'll join her again. The Hyaku Shiki has literally no weapons left except it's head vulcans and she didn't even shoot. She literally just paused to ask if Char wants to continue fighting or join her. It couldn't be more blatant that she was holding back to try and get her to join him.

I also roll my eyes at your insinuation that just because I'm insisting someone held back against Char here, that I must do it all the time for his fights when I've made several posts in the last few days alone insisting Amuro was trying to kill him all along around Axis and wasn't holding back at any point because he was too busy trying to blow up Axis or whatever.

She did yes, but I'd say there's a distinction between using them and spamming them. She used them against not just Scirocco, but against Reccoa and Sarah who were there at the time too. The Palas Athena lost an arm and it's mean cannon, while the Balinoak Samahn was damaged too if I recall, but Scirocco saw through it much the same way Amuro immediately recognized what Lalah was doing and shot them down. Then they both enter a psychic-off, releasing Newtype ghosts at each other until Katz interrupts by trying to kill Scirocco and Sarah sacrifices herself to stop his shot.

Haman uses her funnels in most fights, but I don't think I'd ever call it spamming, because it's usually fairly restrained and sometimes even tactical; herding the enemy a specific direction or what have you.
