TLJ isn't so much written into a corner as much as it feels like a denouement to a story arc, ending the FO vs Resistance story and setting up what's likely the New Empire vs the Alliance to Restore the Republic Again.
Like, the impression I got was that whatever comes after TLJ will be focusing on the next generation of characters and how they deal with the failings of the post-GCW era, considering, yknow, the utter apathy with which the galaxy as a whole reacted to the Resistance's final rally call to stop the FO before they go and reinstitute the Empire as if nothing's changed since the Galactic Civil War. Anything else would be really fucking weird, and TLJ was already really fucking weird enough as is.
