the game only keeps track of your position in 2 dimensions.

When you jump all it does is change your characters animation and the programming allows you to clip through other enemies, be unharmed by pitfalls and other attacks.

Its an illusion of 3d

You can move forward and backward
You can move into and out of the background
You can jump up and fall down

This is movement in 3D.

Enemies react accordingly. I'm sorry that you think 3D is exclusive to polygon games, but the fact is that Final Fight is a 3D game.

I just meant that if you could actually move the camera there would be *something* three dimensional about DKC. Having pixelated sprites representing 3D source models is still completely 2D. It's a cheap effect.

Mortal Kombat is the same thing but nobody ever called the sprites 3D. They had some stupid other marketing gimmicky term for them but they still never said it was 3D in any way.

Which one do you prefer? I just beat SotN for the first time today, and it was a great game. However, I think Super Metroid is better for several reasons.
>no invincibility frames after being hit in the SotN, meaning you can get easily trapped on hit boxes and stuck.
>doors that close in Super Metroid. In SotN there are tons of rooms that seem to be set up so that enemies will knock you back into a previous room, and you'll have to fight them all again

Although, SotN has some elements I prefer

agree. a couple of weapons upgrades/options (whip, chain whip, short sword, long sword, thief daggers), a few spells you can track down, and maybe a few maneuverability upgrades, like a double jump, or a super jump
and of course like five staple sub weapons. throwing knives, holy water, cross, axe, and uh... you know I only care about knives and holy water, anyway

i still like seeing the HP hit numbers, though, and in the above scenario, you would be able to find out which weapon variant/type does more damage and change your strategy accordingly

The PC version is the glitchiest piece of shit imaginable with unfixably busted controller issues and no way to customize it. I'll address two dumbass replies I'd expect right now:

Shadow and Rogue are the only new characters in Adventure 2 that have shown up in other games.
The first Adventure has 4 new characters that show up in later games: Big, Gamma, Chaos, and Tikal.
Going further back, CD added Amy and Metal Sonic, and Knuckles' Chaotix added Espio, Vector, and Charmy.
Adding new characters has always been a part of the series. Sonic 2 did it. Sonic 3 & Knuckles did it. Even some of the Game Gear games did it (Nack/Fang).

I suppose you've conveniently forgotten the first Adventure wherein Pacman the Echidna had cute, innocent, baby-noise-making chao killed so he could steal the chaos emeralds and use them to conquer the world and this awakened an angry god who killed most all the echidnas and was going to destroy the world in its anger until Tikal stopped it.
Just real convenient.
