O.K. then, /vr/. Final Fantasy VIII's story is a unique misunderstood example of purely video-game-specific storytelling. In Resident Evil, it was Wesker bringing you the antidote. Clearly. Final Fantasy IX suffers from mistranslations, and even the main characters' names are entirely botched (Zidane should be Gitan, Freya should be Flyer, Eiko should be Echo, Quina should be Cuisina). Final Fantasy VII is a very good game, second only to VI. Aerith is a deconstruction of a female video gae character stereotype. Cloud is a deconstruction of the JRPG protagonist. FFVII is a deconstruction of a JRPG. "Deconstruction" means "addition of a gimmick". Donkey Kong Country 3 is the best in the series, while 2 is the worst. Dreamcast, Sega's 6th gen hardware, is retro. Shenmue is a retro game. Romhacks from 2013 are retro games. A very important factor in whether you use a particular emulator is whether the main coder is a polite person. Well, did I forget anything? Or is that it for now?

>Donkey Kong Country 3 is the best in the series, while 2 is the worst. If DKC3 toned down the constant gear-shifting and actually built on the mechanics rather than having every stage be a different experiment I would have enjoyed it more. Variety is nice, but too much of it made me feel like I never got used to the game. I remember 2 being way more evened out.

Name some games in the last few years that you've enjoyed.
/v/ says we just circlejerk over our childhood games. I'd like to prove them wrong.
I have found this site pretty good for finding new old games:

I see you recently discovered Lionheart OP. It's a cool game alright. If you want to play another hidden Amiga gem with amazing graphics, I recommend Banshee.

The thread got bumped off the board while I was typing this so I'll just leave it here in case anyone reads: I was never into computer RPGs in the 90s, so the biggest thing for me that I've discovered recently was Planescape: Torment thanks to all the threads that were about it in the first weeks after /vr/'s creation. After I beat it I plan to play more of the Infinity Engine games, and the Diablos are high on my list of things to get to as well. I could mention lots of other games I've discovered during the last few years, playing almost only old games. Only had Nintendo consoles and a very limited collection as a kid, so I've been starting to branch out to Mega Drive and PC Engine after getting RetroArch set up.

The game is a platformer set in a classic fantasy world, and none of the girls in the cover appear in the game.

So I got Wii to play some party games, but the main reason was to play nes/snes/sega/n64 games. I didn't know it would be that shitty... For example when I play Contra and die, I am invisible for like 5 fucking seconds and the same does Mario... Is this normal?

not sure why people call out shit but for me , it's actually pretty good, nice ports of snes9x and fceu with decent gui, best md/mcd emulator around with 100% compatibility, never had any sound or graphical issues with any of those and they never crashed either, very stable and polished piece of softwares, do not listen to xbox trolls or usual 4chan haters the wii or gamecube emus are also awesome if you still own a CRT, i barely can tell the differences with my old console trash, this feature only make it better than any other platform for emulation in my opinion but worthless if you only own an HDTV off course, for anything like n64, ps1 or saturn, it's not what you want to use

When I was a teen I thought Earthworm Jim was the future. I was, of course, wrong. But I wasn't insane. I mean, traditional animation, man! Literally cartoons that you control! In the same way that Mortal Kombat had real people, I mean. Literally cartoons, but then scanned and made digital; but still, what an awesome idea! Right? I even remember reading on a magazine that the technique of making an actual cartoons for the game was a patented idea. Like, it was an idea conceived for Earthworm Jim, and if I recall correctly the mag called the technique "animotion". Maybe I remember it wrong or maybe the mag lied, but that's what my memories tell me. Now, other than Earthworm Jim what game is a cartoon made by a traditional animation studio? I don't mean Laser Disc games like Dragon's Lair. I mean games where the guy you control was hand-drawn and traditionally animated.
