>>61128270>Why are modern handguns so soulless and boring looking?Everything got standardized and boiled down to its simplest form. Hammers disappeared in favor of strikers, so every gun has a flat back of the slide. Accessory rails got to be a standard feature, so the dust cover on the frame will always be squared-off with the rail. Now with slide mounted optics, every slide has to be squared-off on top to facilitate easier mounting of optics. After all that, there is very little for a manufacturer to do to visually distinguish their gun except for different slide cuts and grip textures.
>Did people in the 80s/90s feel the same way about the new handguns of that era?I was only around and aware of guns for the latest part of the 90s, but I always thought that the S&W semi autos like the 5906 were ugly, but compared to the new stuff, I think they have a nice, classic look to them.
