There's a reason people generally say the last time the Soviets could've credibly defeated NATO conventionally was in the 1970s. By the 80s, the rot had set in had for the Soviets while the tech and money only really started seriously flowing again for NATO, and specifically for the Americans.
The 80s/90s was a good fucking time to be in a Western military and those times are why I won't ever jump on the "flame the burgers" bandwagon that's so popular nowadays. Hell, my first time actually sampling bourbon was with Air Force guys in 86 or 87.
