Vietnam's capital Hanoi was sacked and raped by 3,000 Mongol and 10,000 Yi soldiers in the first Mongol invasion of Vietnam.
The Mongols knew how to counter war elephants in jungles. Mongol horse archers fired arrows at the feed of Vietnamese war elephants at the battle of No Nguyen in the first Mongol invasion of Vietnam in 1258. The war elephants stampeded and retreated, trampling the entire Vietnamese army to death and the Mongols won the battle. The Mongols then captured and sacked the Vietnamese capital at Hanoi and burned it, occupying the city and raping Vietnamese women.

The actual source says the Đại Việt army was slaughtered and Vietnam's capital Thăng Long, now Hanoi (Hà Nội) was sacked by an outnumbered Mongol and Yi force which withdrew due to malaria and after the emperor of Đại Việt submitted but a Vietnamese Wikipedia editor change the numbers to make Đại Việt seem outnumbered.

>[gook source]>30,000 soldiers>of which at least 2,000 were Yi troops>Western sources estimate>100,000 Mongols>10,000 Yi soldiersWhat the Western source cited only as "Atwood, C" without title or link actually says
>3,000 Mongols>10,000 Yunnanese Yi tribesmenThe gooks didnt just add 97,000-27.000 invented Mongol soldiers to the actual 3,000 to cope with their defeat. They where so butthurt that Yi troops raped them (ethnic minority from the forested mountains of China's Yunnan province) so they switch the weight massively towards the "superior" Mongol invaders.
Thats just the first paragraph of the 1st defeat they call a victory.
