Now that you mention it, I'd have found Spoiled a lot less objectionable if she'd been established as an absentee mom who was always off doing Wealthy Socialite Stuff, although then they'd have needed to spend time establishing why DT'd care about living up to her expectations when her dad is so great on his own, which would've meant giving her redemption a full episode like it deserved instead of doing it in five minutes during a CMC episode.
Similarly, Cadance as Twilight's foalsitter would've made more sense if she'd been a pegasus at the time, but then they'd have had to explain why she's a Princess now, which would've conflicted with the plot of the episode and basically forced them to cut a filler episode to properly introduce her (which is what they should've done anyway, and which might have spared us from, say, "Dragon Quest" or "The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well")
