You may think it's a modern thing because we've touched the bottom of ugliness in the last few years with all these tattooed pozzed bullshit but really most of the time westerners, at least europeans have always been doing things quite ugly and tasteless for at least the last 1500 years.
There are obviously exceptions but nowadays this schizm that divides the orientals (high IQ so mudslimes not included even if they do some good looking things too) can be seen in modern media like video games where the aesthetic qualities of the works is most of the time secondary or tertiary since it's not the main focus of the game that is interactivity, so we can look at a more raw and honest view of aesthetic deprived of any meaning that could require some aesthetic over another.
You can clearly see that the japanese have an unrealistic depiction of women, the average representation being a clear most of the time flawless fertility goddess. Probably because of the terrible effects of socialism, the westerners prefer to represent reality and all of its ugliness. (the socialist realism is something that can be seen at least as far back as the 1920s in cinema)
I'm not going to actually critique artpieces because it would be a bit too long and boring and I wouldn't have so much terrible things to say about western art actually.
But more about the mindset, you can see that in most forms of expression and media the japanese are interested by the complex shapes found in nature, balance in composition, aerodynamism, and other such things that are tied to "mathematical" or "logical" origins, while Europeans tend to value more things like the spiritual, social meaning of things, in my opinion wrongly believing that it separates them from the creator's chosen plan of everything that matter forms.
